As the spring semester came to an end, the International Office set out to create a memorable experience for both graduating and continuing international students. More than 60 students joined a day trip on 6 June, giving many of them the opportunity to discover some of Hungary’s most beautiful destinations—places they had not yet had the chance to visit during their stay.

The journey began early in the morning with a visit to the famous lavender fields of Tihany. Surrounded by the stunning scenery of the peninsula, students enjoyed the unique atmosphere and breathtaking views of Lake Balaton. The group then crossed the lake by ferry to Szántód, an experience that many participants highlighted as one of the most enjoyable moments of the day.

After lunch, the excursion continued to Balatonboglár. Here, students walked along the Magasösvény (High Walkway), where a spectacular panorama of Lake Balaton unfolded through the treetops. The next stop was the iconic Gömbkilátó (Sphere Lookout), whose distinctive architecture and panoramic views provided excellent photo opportunities and unforgettable memories.

Following the hike, students had the chance to relax and cool off with a refreshing swim in Lake Balaton at the Platán Beach in Balatonboglár. The warm weather, beautiful surroundings, and good company made it the perfect way to round off the day.

The group returned to Sopron late in the evening, tired but full of impressions and shared experiences. Thanks to the efforts of the International Office and the dedicated mentors, the excursion turned into a cheerful and rewarding adventure, allowing students to explore another remarkable region of Hungary while strengthening friendships and creating lasting memories.

The positive atmosphere of the trip was reflected in the students’ feedback:

“It feels like we are not even in Hungary, but somewhere in a Mediterranean country. We definitely have to come back here again.”

“I got to see places I would never have managed to visit otherwise.”

The semester may have come to an end, but for many participants, this journey to the Balaton region will remain one of their favourite memories of studying in Hungary.
