The University of Sopron and Mendel University have reached another significant milestone in their partnership. Leadership from both institutions has not only reaffirmed their strategic alliance but has actively deepened it, paving the way for even closer professional and academic cooperation in the future.
A key moment for this renewed partnership took place at the inauguration ceremony of Mendel University’s new rector, doc. Ing. Martin Klimánek, Ph.D., which was attended by Prof. Dr. Attila Fábián, Rector of the University of Sopron. The event provided an excellent opportunity for both sides to solidify their shared goals and commitment to one another.
This relationship is built on a solid foundation. In February 2026, the University of Sopron’s leadership and a professional delegation met with their counterparts in Brno. During these discussions, the parties outlined common development strategies, with a particular focus on forestry science, the digitalization of education, and strengthening international presence.
The cooperation is rooted in the universities' aligned profiles and values. Both institutions are known for their strong, practice-oriented research and training backgrounds. They are both deeply committed to sustainability, green innovation, and the advancement of agricultural and forestry sciences, creating a natural synergy for joint projects and programs.
The partnership is already delivering tangible results. A professional study trip for Agroforestry MSc students is currently being organized with support from the Pannonia Scholarship Program, providing students with valuable international experience. Additionally, the institutions are collaborating on international grant initiatives, such as the "SCAN DANUBE" project, which examines the future of Hungarian ash tree populations along the Danube.
A major focus of their joint work is the development of digital education. The partners are actively sharing best practices, focusing on creating innovative curriculum materials and providing methodological support to lecturers. The shared goal is to build a modern, experiential learning environment that meets the needs of today's students.
Looking ahead, plans include launching pilot projects, developing short-cycle courses and micro-credentials, and creating further shared digital learning materials. These initiatives will help both institutions increase their footprint and visibility within the international higher education landscape.
