The University of Sopron has achieved outstanding results, even within the highly competitive domestic higher education landscape, in a comprehensive satisfaction survey conducted among international students. The five-year trend analysis (2021–2025) based on the Stipendium Hungaricum Student Report highlights that the institution’s family-like atmosphere, professional administrative background, and stable housing security serve as a unique appeal for students arriving from all corners of the world.

According to data from the national survey coordinated by the Tempus Public Foundation, the international student satisfaction indicators at the University of Sopron have largely followed a steadily upward trajectory over the past five years. These results truly reflect the university’s committed efforts to provide foreign scholarship holders not only with high-level academic knowledge but also with a supportive, safe, and experience-rich environment.

The Secret of the Sopron Model: Personal Care and Human-Centric Administration

The most critical finding of the research is that the University of Sopron’s greatest competitive advantage — owing partly to its size — lies primarily in the human factor. The helpfulness of administrative staff achieved an exceptionally high score of 4.56, far surpassing the national university average of 4.09. Based on feedback from international students, bureaucracy on the Sopron campus is not a rigid barrier but a smooth, supportive system where the university closely assists and accompanies students through academic, healthcare, and other essential lifestyle-related administrative processes.

Similarly, the activities of the 'StudentHelp' mentor network, established and maintained by the International Office, elevate the institution into the national forefront. Student mentoring (3.95) and the helpfulness of mentors (4.05) have improved systematically year over year, proving that the peer-support system is an indispensable pillar of daily integration. The gradual, year-by-year development of this established system clearly signals the paramount importance placed on the social integration of international students.

A Home Away from Home – Safety and a Vibrant Community Life

In contrast to institutions in the capital and other major cities, one of Sopron's main attractions is its livable small-town environment and guaranteed, stable housing security. While finding accommodation and securing dormitory placement pose a serious national challenge for foreign students, the dormitory conditions and accommodation assistance at the University of Sopron (4.06) enjoy outstanding satisfaction. This score outperforms the national benchmark by 0.52 points, as a dormitory space is guaranteed upon request for every first-year international student, thereby supporting their arrival and smooth integration. Safety and peace of mind are further reinforced by the campus's outstanding security metrics (4.43).

The family-like, welcoming atmosphere is made complete by colorful community programs. In the areas of organized intercultural programs (4.35) and non-academic cultural events (4.11), the university holds a prominent position, leading the national average by more than half a point. These events not only strengthen connections among international students but also facilitate successful networking and relationship-building with Hungarian students.

A Partnership in Education

The survey confirmed that the quality of education at the University of Sopron confidently keeps pace with the national standard (4.01). Students particularly appreciate the direct support (4.20) and continuous professional availability (4.10) of the professors, which stands out as a distinct strength of the institution. Thanks to small-group teaching, the direct faculty-student relationships, modernizing pedagogical

methods, and detailed professional feedback all contribute to students experiencing their university years as true partners .

The data from the 2021–2025 period clearly demonstrate: the international community of the University of Sopron is strong, stable, and deeply committed to continuous growth.
