The University of Sopron continues to strengthen its role in the internationalization of higher education by expanding its academic partnerships on the African continent. From April 7–10, 2025, the university participated in the Moroccan Partner Search Seminar held in Ben Guerir, organized with the support of the Tempus Public Foundation. The event focused on fostering international cooperation between Morocco and Central European countries, encouraging credit mobility, and launching joint academic projects. The seminar included professional presentations, panel discussions, and workshops aimed at enhancing bilateral academic relations. A total of 93 experts from four countries attended the high-level event.
The academic collaboration initiated in Ben Guerir continued in Hungary on May 7–8, 2025, with the visit of M. Mohamed Khalfaoui, Secretary General of the Moroccan Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, accompanied by a delegation of senior university leaders. During their visit, the 3rd Hungarian-Moroccan Rectors’ Forum was held, where the University of Sopron signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with Chouaib Doukkali University, a strategic Moroccan institution committed to green energy and innovation.
Professor Dr. Attila Fábián, Rector of the University of Sopron, emphasized that Morocco remains one of the University’s key international partners. The strength of this cooperation is clearly reflected in the fact that for the 2025/26 academic year, the highest number of first-choice international applicants to the University came from Morocco through the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program. The Rector affirmed the University’s commitment to further expanding its academic partnerships in North Africa, particularly in Morocco, while also maintaining its presence in Sub-Saharan Africa.
